Rugby
Rugby is a team sport that started in England in the early 1800s. It is very popular in the UK today. There are two main types of rugby: Rugby Union and Rugby League.
Types of Rugby
- Rugby Union:
- Has 15 players on each team.
- Players can pass the ball backward.
- The main aim is to score tries by touching the ball down over the opponent’s goal line.
- The most famous competition is the Six Nations Championship which includes teams from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France, and Italy.
- Rugby League:
- Has 13 players on each team.
- Players can pass the ball in any direction but mainly focus on moving it forward.
- Teams aim to score by getting the ball over the opponent’s try line.
- The main club competition is the Super League.
Competitions
Both types of rugby have separate leagues and national teams. Teams from England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland (which plays with the Republic of Ireland) compete against each other in various competitions.
